Our research group is based at Institute of Plant Physiology and Ecology, Shanghai Institute of Biological Sciences (SIBS), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and also belongs to Center of Excellence for Plant and Microbial Sciences (CEPAMS), established between CAS and John Innes Center (JIC) in UK.

During their life cycles, plants are in constant contact with a great variety of microbes, including pathogenic microbes, beneficial microbes and commensal microbes. Plant diseases caused by pathogenic microbes represent one of the most important threats to global food security, despite the tremendous efforts in pesticide application and breeding of disease-resistant plants. One major goal of our research is to dissect the molecular mechanisms of plant-pathogen-environment triangular interactions. New discoveries on the mechanisms of pathogen virulence and plant immunity can provide potentially transformative new strategies for improving disease resistance in crop plants. In addition, we are also interested in plant-leaf microbiome interactions, a quickly-emerging and relatively under-studied area.
